In the book Why Love?: We're Created For Relationship, Chapter 7 From Mourning To Morning, we see that Saul will no longer be king of Israel and that God has already found another suitable person after his own heart. According to the book of 1 Samuel 15, this greatly pains the prophet Samuel, but God literally told him to move on because HE (God) had already moved on.

I Can't Love You (Like I Used To) discusses this very thing. We find ourselves holding on to something that even God has moved on from. It hurts the progress of our story when choose to stuck in the past in hopes that things change for the better. We have to come to terms with the reality that what we truly want isn't what God actually wanted for us, and He has already had a person in mind for us. He just needed reality to set in this realm of time.

This song is a declaration that you will not go back to one that doesn't treasure you as you treasured them. Scriptures tells that where our heart is, so will our treasure be; and sadly, they're heart wasn't either completely with or never was with you. You have to face that truth head on, or you will find yourself going back or be allowed to be dragged back in something that isn't healthy for your growth, development, progress of your purpose.

You can't love them like you used to, nor should you. That love and energy was and is meant for one more deserving and prepared to appreciate it.
